Disturbing Event

Ok Guys, so I know you've read about the rape. I cannot even begin to imagine how horrible that is. How is it affecting the different characters? That kind of thing is a life-changing horror that I don't think a person ever gets over... With luck, you can survive it and get "through" it, but he will never be the same. What do you think?

  1. i think Hassan has tried to block it from memory and go on with life being friends with amir but amir saw it happen and he didn't help. like seriously that does not make them friends and its not fair to Hassan that when amir realizes there not friends its in a time when he needs one most.

  3. I think that Amir had never had a true friend before and he did not really understand what it meant to be there for someone else when they need you. He knew that if he got involved there was a risk that he could get hurt like Hassan either physically by Assef or mentally by witnessing it take place.

  4. Hassan will never be the same after he was raped. That is something you can never forget; no matter how hard you try to block it out. Amir will never be the same either. Watching your best friend have that happen to him and not do anything about it is a life-changing event. Amir was scared but he still should have spoken up for his friend. The kite is not as important as his friendship with Hassan, which is what Amir forgot in the situation. The fact that after all of that happened and Hassan still brought the kite back for Amir really shows Hassan's true character. A kind-hearted person who put Amir over himself. I feel bad for Hassan because Amir wouldn't do the same for Hassan.

  5. i agree in the situation it really was never about the kite at all amir thought that by winning and having the blue kite as a trophy would make his "baba" finally love him. also hassan and amir were like brother i personally cannot understand on any level why amir didnt even think twice about helping hassan who IS his friend even tho amir doesnt know it.

  7. i think that in a way amir is taking it even worse than hassan. he had some immense guilt over the situation and i think he deserved it since he had no intentions to help hassan during the situation. at least hassans trying to get past it. it should be amir who was trying to patch up the freindship but instead its hassan. it doesnt really make much sense.

  8. i agree and the scene where they pelt eachother with pomogranets reveals alot about hassan who really in the end is just a loyal servent that wants the friend in amir but will never get it because amir is immature and selfish.
